On 12/17/16 at approximately 0109 hours, Officers from North Coventry Township Police Department responded to the area of the 600 block of E. Cedarville Road for a single vehicle accident. Upon arrival, Officers found a blue Jeep Commander which was resting against a tree on the north side of the road with heavy front end damage. The vehicle was owned and operated by William Carney of North Coventry. Carney was unconscious and had sustained multiple injuries as a result of the crash. Officer's provided initial medical treatment to Carney until Goodwill Ambulance staff arrived. Officers and staff of Goodwill Ambulance removed Carney from the vehicle and placed him into the ambulance. While with Carney, Officers detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. Carney was then transported to W. Reading hospital for treatment of his injuries. While conducting the crash investigation, Officer located a mason jar on the drivers seat containing a green leafy substance which later tested positive as marijuana. Officers obtained a search warrant which was served at W. Reading Hospital for the records pertaining to Carney's care while in the hospital. The records were received and revealed that at the time of the blood draw, Carney had a BAC of 0.25%.
Charges have been filed against Carney with District Court 15-3-01 for 2 counts of DUI, Roadways laned for travel and possession of a small amount of marijuana. Carney is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
