On 2/21/2018, at approximately 1832 hrs. the North Coventry Twp. Police Department responded to the Boscov's Department Store, located within the Coventry Mall on the report of a retail theft. It was reported that the male actor, later identified as Jeremy Robert Francis Martus, 28, of Red Hill PA, the defendant, was being detained by Boscov's Loss Prevention Officers, and that the defendant was being uncooperative.
Upon police arrival, Boscov's Loss Prevention Officers advised that they observed the defendant select and remove two electric toothbrushes, valued at $159.98, from the racks offered for sale by Boscov's, place the merchandise inside the defendant's coat, and then exit the store without paying for said merchandise. Boscov's LPO advised that they stopped the defendant in the parking lot and recovered the stolen merchandise from the defendant. Boscov's LPO advised that the defendant refused to re-enter the store with them and that they had to detain the defendant until police arrived on scene.
The defendant was taken into custody at approximately 1841 hrs. A search, subject to arrest, of the defendant was conducted and police recovered two syringes and a yellow baggie containing a white powder residue from the defendant. The defendant was charged with misdemeanor retail theft and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, processed and released.
