On 09/16/17 the North Coventry Township Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint at Route 100 and Lenape Crossings. At approximately 1240 hours a white Ford Transit van came through the checkpoint and was contacted by officers involved in the checkpoint. Officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and sent the driver who was later identified as Anibal Ortiz into the secondary testing area. Once in the secondary testing area, Ortiz supplied officers with a bag which contained a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Ortiz was requested to step from the vehicle and submit to field sobriety testing which he complied and subsequently failed. Ortiz was taken into custody and transported to PMMC for further testing. Upon submitting to further testing, Ortiz was processed and released pending the results of the blood analysis.
Officers received the blood analysis report for Ortiz blood which found he was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the blood draw. Based on these results, charges were filed against Ortiz for DUI, Possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia with District Court 15-3-01. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled for Ortiz regarding these charges.
