The North Coventry Township Police Department arrested Robert Sammaritano, 58 of Gilbertsville, for Aggravated Assualt with a deadly weapon, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Possessing Instruments of Crime, Harassment, Public Drunkness, Accidents Involving Attended Property, and other traffic related charges. The arrest was made after Officers responded to Pottstown Pike and S. Hanover Street for the report of two males fighting with a crow bar. Prior to Police arrival, one male, later identifed as Robert Sammaritano, fled the scene in a white BMW. During the course of the investigation, Officers determined Sammaritano was in a minor vehicle crash with the other involved male/victim on Route 100 south near Temple Road. Sammaritano continued on Route 100 south while the victim was signaling Sammaritano to pull over. Sammaritano pulled over a short time later and the two exited their vehicle. The victim stated Sammaritano immediately displayed a baton, whipped the baton in a forward motion to extend the baton, and advanced towards him. The victim said Sammaritano then swung and struck him. The victim was able to disarm Sammaritano before an off-duty fireman stopped to control the situation. Sammaritano then got back into his vehicle and left the scene. Sammaritano was later arraigned on felony charges at District Court 15-3-01. Sammaritano was released on bail and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled.
