On 12/05/18 at approximately 1553 hours the North Coventry township Police Department responded to the Kohl's Department Store located at the Coventry Mall, 351 W. Schuylkill Road for the report of a retail theft in progress. Upon arrival, Officers observed a female matching the description of the suspect running down Route 724 in the eastbound lanes of travel attempting to stop vehicles to obtain a ride. Officers blocked the roadway and were able apprehend the female. The female later identified as Kendra Thompkins from E. Greenville was detained as officers completed their investigation. Thompkins was identified by Kohl's Loss Prevention Officer as the suspect. Thompkins identified herself as her younger sister when questioned by police.
Officers utilized a mobile ID scanner which provided the correct identity for Thompkins. It was found that Thompkins had 6 active arrest warrants out of Montgomery County. It was also found that Thompkins was convicted of 6 prior retail theft charges. Thompkins, was found to be hiding a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia hidden on her body. Thompkins was charged with 1 count of felony retail theft, 1 count false identification to law enforcement, 2 counts simple possession of a controlled substance and 2 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
On 12/06/18, Thompkins was arraigned by Judge Hipple and was remanded to Chester County Prison when she was unable to post $10,000.00 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 12/10/18 at 0900 hours in front of Judge Hipple.
