On 081/11/17 at approximately 1930 hours, The North Coventry Township Police Department responded to the area in front of 1336 S. Hanover Street for the report of a two vehicle accident. Upon arrival officers found a head on collision involving two vehicles. Officers made contact with the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado who was identified as Brian Volz. It was determined that Volz was traveling south on S. Hanover Street when he crossed into the oncoming lanes of travel, striking a vehicle traveling north. The driver of the other vehicle had to be extracted from the vehicle using mechanical means and was transported to a trauma center for serious bodily injuries. From the investigation, Officers suspected that Volz was under the influence of heroin and he was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, Volz submitted to a test of his blood which was later sent out for analysis. Officers found a bag which contained suspected heroin, a preloaded syringe containing 40 units of suspected heroin and paraphernalia on Volz.
Officers received the report for the blood analysis which revealed that at the time of blood draw, Volz had morphine, fentanyl and THC in his blood. Based on this information, Volz has been charged with DUI(second offense), DUI involving accidents resulting in serious bodily injury, accidents involving serious bodily injuries, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple summary traffic offenses. Charges were filed against Volz with District Court 15-3-01.
