On March 6, 2018 at about 1205 hours, the North Coventry Police responded to the area of Rt. 422 EB and Rt. 100 for a jackknifed tractor trailer which was blocking the roadway. The operator, Luis Daniel Santos Zabala, was operating a 2003 Freightliner tractor towing an empty trailer. Unit1 was traveling east on Rt. 422 in the right lane approaching the Rt. 100 interchange. Zabala stated that a vehicle attempting to merge onto Rt. 422 from the Rt. 100 SB ramp was traveling quickly. Zabala attempted to change lanes. While moving into the left lane, Zabala saw another vehicle behind him in the left lane. Zabala turned back to the right, applied his brakes, and lost control of his vehicle. Unit1 jackknifed and crossed over the left lane and struck the center guardrail. Berks Mont Towing responded to the scene and removed the vehicle. The Norco Fire Company and Fire Police assisted at the scene. The left lane of Rt. 422 EB at Rt. 100 was closed for approximately two hours until the tractor trailer was removed.
