ATTEMPTED SCAM

The North Coventry Township Police Department took the report of an attempted scam.  The reporting party advised that she received a pop up ad from "Quartet Web" advising her that her computer was infected with a virus and to call (208)423-6145 for further instruction.  After calling the number she allowed remote access to her computer and paid $295.00 for a plan for protection for her computer.  After receiving numerous calls from the "company" the complainant became suspicious and stopped the payment to the company, and took her computer in for service to ensure no viruses were put on her computer.  After investigating the company, it was determined the actor/s are from outside of the US and are linked to other reported scams.  The North Coventry Township Police Department is urging residents to research all companies before doing business with them especially when conducted on the internet.  Also if a virus is reported from a company that you do not have a current service with, be advised this most likely is a scam and do not to allow the unknown company to remotely access your personal computer.
