Four Vehicle Crash
On 01/02/2018 at 1531 hrs. The North Coventry Twp. Police Dept. responded to the area of Route 422 West and MM 170.9 on the report of a four vehicle crash. Upon arrival it was found that all Units were traveling west on Route 422 in the barriered single lane of the construction zone. Unit #4, driven by Michael Bryson of Birdsboro, was in front of Unit #2 driven by Alejandro Guzman of Reading. Unit #1, driven by Andre Vaillancourt of New York, was behind Unit #2, and Unit #3, driven by Nick Falcone Jr. of Pottstown, was behind Unit #1. In the area of Route 422 west and MM 170.9 Unit's #4 and #2 stopped for stopped traffic in the front of them. Unit #1 did follow Unit #2 at a distance that was closer than was reasonable and prudent for the speed and conditions that existed and failed to observed that traffic had stopped. Unit #1 swerved to the north to avoid Unit #2 and struck the passenger's side of Unit #2 as Unit #1 passed. Unit #1 then continued west and struck the rearend of Unit #4, coming to rest. Unit #3 did follow Unit #1 at a distance that was closer than was reasonable and prudent for the speed and conditions that existed and failed to observed that traffic had stopped. Unit #3 swerved to the north and struck the passenger's rear side of Unit #2. Unit #1 sustained disabling frontend damage and was towed from the scene. Unit #2 sustained functional passenger's side damage and was driven from the scene. Unit #3 sustained functional driver's side damage and was driven from the scene. Unit #4 sustained functional rearend damage and was driven from the scene. No injuries were reported at the time of the crash. Opr.'s #1 and #3 were cited for PMVC 3310(a) Following Too Closely. North Coventry Twp Police were assisted by Norco Fire Police and Route 422 West was closed at Route 100 for approximately one hour to clear the crash scene from the highway.
