On May 12, 2016, the North Coventry Police responded to a residence for a report of financial fraud. The victim received a phone call from an official claiming to be from the U.S. Treasury Department. The official claimed the victim owed back taxes and needed to pay them immediately. The victim sent five seperate MoneyGrams, totaling approximtely $4,900. The victim stated the person claiming to be the official was very aggressive, threatening and made her stay on the line as she was sending the payments. Residents are reminded that no governmental agencies demand immediate payment over the phone and to report any suspicious calls to the police.
