One vehicle crash
On 05/01/2017 at 0050 hrs. The North Coventry Twp. Police Dept. responded to Route 100 south, just north of Favinger Rd., in South Coventry, at the request of PSP Embreeville, Troop J. It was reported that PSP was investigating a one vehicle crash in which the driver had left the scene. Upon arrival PSP Troopers advised that at 0001 hours they responded to this location on the report of a disabled vehicle off to the side of the roadway. PSP Troopers advised that upon arrival they observed fresh damage to the front and driver's side of the vehicle. PSP Troopers advised that they followed the vehicle's fluid trail into North Coventry Twp., and requested that a North Coventry Police Officer respond.
North Coventry Police followed the fluid trail and checked the vehicle. The vehicle was a 2014 KIA Forte. The vehicle was found to owned by Jesse L. Himelright, of Coatesville PA. North Coventry Police observed fresh damage to the front and driver's side of the vehicle. From the damage it was evident that the vehicle had struck a square post/pole, possibly a traffic sign post, and had concrete scrapes on the driver's side door.
North Coventry Police followed the fluid trail to the Route 724 ramp to Route 100 south. From the evidence found at the scene the KIA was traveling on the Route 724 ramp to Route 100 south. The KIA failed to negotiate the right curve at the top of the ramp, traveling east into the grass median, striking the stop sign and it's two posts. The KIA continued east across both lanes of Route 100 south, striking the center concrete barrier, and then traveling south on Route 100. The KIA traveled 2.7 miles south on Route 100 before becoming disabled by a driver's side front blown tire.
Himelright was unable to be reached the night of the crash. Himelright was later interviewed by North Coventry Police. Himelright reported that he was operating the vehicle at the time of the crash, and that the crash was caused by a deer running out in front of his vehicle. Himelright was cited for PMVC 3745 Accidents Involving Damage to Unattended Vehicle or Property. No injuries were reported at the time of the crash.
