The North Coventry Police responded to a vehicle crash with a vehicle reportedly going over the side of the Route 422 westbound Schuylkill River Bridge in the Construction Zone. The incident began when Pennsylvania State Troopers stopped a vehicle on Route 422 west in the area of Upper Providence. That operator initiated a vehicle pursuit with Troopers from the Belmont Barracks after the initial stop. Troopers discontinued the pursuit and the suspect vehicle continued on Route 422 westbound driving through the construction zone at Armand Hammer Boulevard on the shoulder, knocking over cones. The vehicle continued on Route 422 west where it entered the manned construction zone at Route 422 west and the Schuylkill River narrowly missing construction workers. The vehicle then crashed through the temporary guide rail and plunged off the side of bridge falling approximately forty feet and coming to rest on its roof. North Coventry Police and West Pottsgrove Police initiated life saving measures while the operator was trapped inside. The operator was extricated by West Pottsgrove and North Coventry Fire Departments. The operator was transported to Reading Hospital by Goodwill Ambulance. The crash investigation is being handled by Pennsylvania State Police since the pursuit was initiated by Troopers with assistance provided by North Coventry Police Department.
