Maria G. Baeza-Alvarez, age 20, of Kennett Square was arrested and charged with Aggravated and Simple Assault, Resisting Arrest or Other Law Enforcement, violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), and related summary offenses. The incident occurred on 01/24/2019 at approx. 11:56 pm, in the 100 block of Chambers Road, in New Garden Township. Police had been dispatched to the area for a suspicious condition. Upon making contact with a Jeep occupied by two subjects, police observed furtive movements taking place inside the vehicle. Upon making contact with the occupants, police detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When police removed the front seat passenger, Baeza-Alvarez, she was found to be in possession of marijuana and related paraphernalia. While in police custody, she became belligerent and assaultive, punching one officer in the arm and attempting to headbutt another. She was transported to Central Booking for processing and arraignment, after which she was committed to the Chester County Prison in lieu of $50,000.00 bail. The case is pending court.
