Joseph Charles Jones, age 35, of Christiana, PA was arrested and charged with DUI, as well as with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device, and Cosmetic Act (Act 64), following a traffic stop for a registration violation. The incident occurred on 11/1/2017 at approx. 1338 hours, in the 8900 block of Gap Newport Pike, in New Garden Township. Police stopped a 1996 Chrysler sedan for an expired registration and upon making contact with Jones, an item commonly associated with drug use was observed in plain view in the vehicle. Based on his conduct and behavior, police suspected that he may be under the influence of a controlled substance and had him exit his vehicle. Upon doing so, police observed a bag of suspected heroin on the driver's seat. A search of the vehicle produced (44) additional bags of suspected heroin in his jacket pocket and a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine was found on the rear floor. Jones was taken into custody for the Act 64 violations as well as for suspicion of DUI (drugs). He was transported to the hospital where he submitted to a chemical test of his blood, the results of which are pending lab analysis. Jones was processed and arraigned, after which he was committed to the Chester County Prison in lieu of posting bail.
