Lauren Puckett, age 28, of Newark, DE and Jessica L. Wright, age 28, of Bear DE were charged with Forgery, Access Device Fraud, Possessing Instruments of Crime, Theft offenses, and Criminal Conspiracy to commit these offenses, in connection with the theft and unauthorized passing of two checks stolen from Puckett’s grandfather’s residence. The incident occurred on 05/05/2017 in the 200 block of Buttonwood Road, in New Garden Township. The victim reported to police that he discovered two checks missing from the back of his checkbook. He and a second victim who shares the account checked it for activity and observed that one of the stolen checks was written out to and endorsed by Jessica Wright and was cashed in the amount of $410.00. Wright attempted to cash the second stolen check in the amount of $355.00 but the transaction was denied by the bank. In both cases, the victim’s name had been forged on the checks without his authorization. Puckett reportedly admitted to her family that she had stolen the checks and Wright had presented her driver’s license to the bank for the declined transaction. Charges were filed in MDC 15-4-04 and arrest warrants for both were issued on 01/31/2018.
