On Monday, May 18th, 2015 at approx. 4 pm, Tredyffrin Twp. Police Department was summoned to the Woodgate Development off of Darby Rd. for a report of a trespasser on the roof. Upon arrival, officers spotted a white male actor, later identified as ROBERT FRANKLIN MIDDLETON, 28 years of age, on top of the 100 block building. When spoken to, the actor fled across the roofline, hiding behind a chimney before jumping off of the roof. The subject landed on a brick wall before losing his balance and falling another 12 feet. The subject was transported to the Paoli Trauma Center for care. A female co-conspirator, RACHEL HERTZOG, 24 years of age, was arrested nearby. The motive for the crime was the removal and sale of copper roofing materials. The subjects were charged with a similar theft back on May 4th, 2015. Hertzog was charged with violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code to include: Criminal Conspiracy at Theft by Unlawful Taking, Receiving Stolen Property, Criminal Mischief, Defiant Trespass and Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance.
Herzog was arrested, at a family residence without incident after his treatment and released from the Hospital. Hertzog was arraigned on Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 and ordered to be remanded to Chester Co. Prison. Prior to transport, Middleton attempted to harm himself and was remanded to medical authorities. On Tuesday, May 20th, 2015, Middleton, while being transported by medical authorities, fled an ambulance, in the area of Paoli Trauma Center and was the subject of a three hour multi-jurisdictional search. Middleton surrendered to authorities later that evening. Middleton and Hertzog are scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Analisa Sondergaard of the Chesterbrook District Court this coming Friday, May 22nd, 2015.
