Case

The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department has been made aware that residents of East Goshen Township have been receiving automated phone calls to verify their sewer bill payment. These calls to township residents are displaying the caller id of “East Goshen Township.” East Goshen Township does not have an automated phone calling system and these calls are done by scammers.

This type of scam is calling “Spoofing.”

As defined by the FCC: “Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Scammers often use neighbor spoofing so it appears that an incoming call is coming from a local number, or spoof a number from a company or a government agency that you may already know and trust. If you answer, they use scam scripts to try to steal your money or valuable personal information, which can be used in fraudulent activity.”

If you feel you are a victim of this scam and provided personal information, please contact the police to file a report. Additionally, immediately notify your creditors for fraudulent activity and monitor your credit reports.
