Keep Our Youth Safe on Social Media
The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department has been investigating numerous incidents involving the solicitation of minors and young adults. To help keep our community safe, we want to inform parents and teens to be more cautious about who they are communicating with on social media. Fake accounts are frequently created, adding teens on these social media platforms, pretending to be the same age, and tricking teens into engaging in sexually explicate activities online. These interactions are being recorded by the fake account holders and the offenders blackmail these kids by threatening to send their photos to all their friends and family if they do not send them money. The Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department strives to prevent exposing our youth to these types of cybersex crimes. Parents and guardians, please speak to your teens about the dangers of communicating on social media. Teens do not hesitate to come forward and tell a trusting adult if you become a victim of this type of crime. Help us keep our community safe!
