MAN THREATENING SUICIDE SURRENDERS TO POLICE AFTER THREE HOUR STANDOFF

SWAT INCIDENT IN EAST GOSHEN TOWNSHIP ENDS PEACEFULLY AFTER THREE HOUR STANDOFF

On Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 9:43 AM the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department responded to the unit block of West Harrison Road in East Goshen Township for a wellbeing check.

Police learned that a 32 year old male was armed with a rifle and threatening suicide inside his residence.

WEGO PD was assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police, West Goshen Police Department, Birmingham Police Department and West Chester University Police Department. Attempts to communicate with the individual were not successful.

Police utilized the Chester County Department of Emergency Services for a community notification directing nearby residents to shelter in place.

The West Chester Regional Emergency Response Team (SWAT) was activated and contact was made with the individual who initially refused to exit his residence. The individual eventually exited the residence unarmed and surrendered to police. He is currently being evaluated at a local hospital. The Central Chester County Regional Emergency Response Team and Downingtown Police Department responded with a specialized vehicle to support the operation.

The West Chester Regional Emergency Response Team is comprised of members from the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department, West Chester Police Department, West Goshen Township Police Department, Willistown Township Police Department, West Whiteland Township Police Department, Uwchlan Township Police Department and West Chester University Police Department.
