A great group of students from the Downingtown STEM Academy recently completed a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Course at Downingtown PD. This course, which has been running for over a decade, provides students with a basic introduction to crime scene investigation. CSI team structure and dynamics, responsibilities, proper documentation, and technology are some of the significant subject areas of the program. The students were fortunate to have access to Officers from Downingtown PD and professionals from numerous agencies that play a crucial role in crime scene investigation. Some of those agencies that partnered with DPD were the Chester County District Attorney's Office, the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office, the Westtown-East Goshen PD Serious Crash Assistance Team, and the Lancaster County Coroner's Office. Special speakers were on hand throughout the week to speak with the students about their respective disciplines and how they interact with police officers during specialized crime scene investigations. One of these outstanding guest speakers was Retired FBI Agent Michael O'Brien.
Special thanks go to DPD Detective Andy Trautmann and DPD Officer Kevin Coyle for putting the program together and to our great partners at the Downingtown STEM Academy. Downingtown STEM's Principal Art Campbell and Administrator Ms. Kaitlin Brinker are huge supporters of the program!
Kudos to the STEM students who volunteered to attend this great program during their summer break!
