On Friday, June 17, 2022, police were called to investigate a reckless driver that had crashed in the intersection of Maple and E. Bridge Streets, just before 7:30 AM. The driver and his male passenger climbed from the overturned vehicle and ran from the scene. Police pursued the actors on foot, taking the driver into custody a short time later in West Sadsbury Twp. There was no immediate threat to the community, contrary to inaccurate social media posts of an active shooter incident. 

Arrested and being held in the Chester County Prison is the stolen vehicle's driver, Kyle Laird, 25 of West Sadsbury Twp., for multiple criminal and traffic offenses. His male accomplice remains on the run. Investigators are asking that anyone with video surveillance/home security systems on 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st Ave. to review their video between 0600 and 0730, Friday, June 17, 2022, for suspicious activity/these actors. 

Police were on the avenues investigating reports of 2 male actors, wearing dark clothing and carrying a red/dark colored backpack, walking the avenues and acting suspiciously just before 7:00AM. One report had both actors wearing face coverings/masks.

Minutes later, police received a report of a stolen vehicle from 3rd Avenue. Police suspect that sightings between 8th Ave and 1st Ave. were these car thieves. Anyone with information on these individuals, or residents discovering video of this activity/actors is asked to retain the images and contact Detective Rodney Discher, 610-857-3535 or 610-383-7000 at your earliest convenience.
