KENNETT SQUARE >> Kennett Square police are looking for a man who they say has been soliciting residents for driveway sealing, and think he may be operating a scam. The man solicited several homeowners last week and his image has been captured on home security cameras, but so far police have been unable to locate him.
On May 26, 2021, it was reported to the Kennett Square Police Department that at 11:45 a.m., a man parked his pickup truck in a driveway in the 200 block of Oak Avenue. He exited his pickup truck and loitered around the backyard and back door to the home for approximately 15 minutes.
The homeowner told police that the man left after noticing that the homeowner had security cameras. Neighborhood interviews were conducted by the reporting officer.
Another homeowner in the 100 block of Oak Avenue in Kennett Square reported that the man entered the driveway of that residence on foot and upon seeing the homeowner, asked the homeowner about needing driveway refinishing. After declining the service, the man entered his truck and left the area.
Police said there have been no reports of fraud, scam, or burglary.
The behavior and patterns of his actions, police said, are indicative of a person committing a Gypsy Scam or Distraction Burglary.
Police ask anyone who can identify the man to contact them at 610-4440501.
Gypsy Scam refers to people who travel in small groups across the country perpetrating crimes of fraud, theft, and burglary.
