Reported in the Daily Local News, May 12, 2020, the Chester County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #11 in West Chester has cancelled its annual Memorial Service which was to have taken place May 15.
Each May, the members of Chester County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #11, along with their families, friends and citizens gather to celebrate and honor Chester County’s nine fallen officers, including Parkesburg Police Officer Douglas H. Pyle (Sep 15, 1988) who in the service and protection of their communities have paid the highest price for freedom and safety, with their lives. Chester County’s dedicated officers will be honored in other ways. Law Enforcement and public may watch online the 32nd annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, May 13, at 8 p.m. Register to watch online at https://nleomf. org/, and consider purchasing a virtual candle or making a donation to help with the upkeep of the National Memorial where the names of over 22,000 fallen officers from federal, state and local law enforcement are engraved, and who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of our nation and its people. Chester County residents can recognize and thank a law enforcement officer for their service during Police Week this week. U.S. flags are to be flown at half-staff on May 15 for Peace Officer Memorial Day.
