On June 21, 2022, James Nania, Jr., 19, of Morton, PA, turned himself in at Magisterial District Court 15-3-04 after a warrant had been issued for his arrest as a result of a sexual assault investigation. He was arraigned on the charges and bail was set at $100,000 unsecured with numerous reporting and compliance conditions attached.
On June 12, 2022, the Kennett Square Police Department was alerted to the sexual assault that took place in Kennett Square Borough on June 11, 2022. The child victim initially reported the offense to the Kennett Township Police Department; however, jurisdictional boundaries turned this investigation over to KSPD. Nania was identified as having met the victim through the social media application, Snapchat. The victim, who is less than 16 years of age and more than 4 years younger than Nania, left their house with Nania in the middle of the night. The victim reported that Nania filmed them engaging in sexual activity. Sgt. Gravina, a member of the Chester County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, investigated the incident. KSPD was assisted by the Kennett Township, Marple Township (Delaware County), and Springfield Township (Delaware County) Police Departments and the Chester County Detectives during various stages of this investigation.
