The below link is of a Police Incident which occurred in the early morning hours of February 8, 2022 at approximately 12:45am. The link was shared via Facebook to the Kennett Square Community Page by a resident who happened to record the incident in real time as it took place.
The Police Officers were dealing with a subject who appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis in addition to potentially being under the influence of a controlled substance. After multiple calls regarding the subject, who had been causing various disturbances at different locations, the Police Officers confronted and attempted to take the subject into custody. The subject refused to comply and Officers deployed a less than lethal tool called the BolaWrap. The BolaWrap deploys an 8 foot Kevlar cord which wraps around the subjects legs to contain him. The subject was then able to be taken into custody without further injury.

Some of the questions raised by this footage, include - was the subject shot with a gun or was there a gun shot? The answer to both is NO. When the BolaWrap is deployed it does sound similar to a gun shot. That is in part due to the charge which deploys the Kevlar cord of the BolaWrap. Please clink on the highlighted BolaWrap link to learn more about it and when the Kennett Square Police implemented its use.
This type of incident is specifically why the Kennett Square Police Department initially considered implementing a tool like the BolaWrap. Everyday Police Officers encounter individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis, under the influence of drugs, or are non-compliant to the point of creating a dangerous environment. The BolaWrap will allow officers to temporarily detain an individual, if deemed necessary, while working to deescalate the situation without additional force.
