CHARGES FILED IN CONNECTION WITH ELDER ABUSE VIDEO SHARED ON SOCIAL MEDIA

On July 19, 2019 the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department received a report from law enforcement in Delaware of a video that was posted on social media of an elderly female being verbally and physically abused by a health care provider.

During the investigation in Delaware, it was determined that the video was taken at a senior living facility in East Goshen Township, Chester County, PA.

Members of the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department immediately determined that the victim was no longer in danger and that the person who committed the act was no longer working at the facility.

Over the past two weeks Detectives conducted a detailed investigation that included the examination of videos, interviews of witnesses and consulting with the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.

On July 31, 2019 the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department arrested Shyaire Selon Romeo, age 19, from the unit block of Servan Court, Wilmington, Delaware. Romeo, charged with simple assault and harassment, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Thomas Tartaglio at District Court 15-1-02 for arraignment and released on $15,000.00 dollars unsecured bail. She will appear for a preliminary hearing on September 11, 2019.

Throughout the investigation Detectives were in contact with the family of the victim who no longer resides at the East Goshen senior living facility. Shyaire Romeo met with Detectives on more than one occasion and cooperated with police.
