The police department is often called when a resident loses their dog or when people find dogs on the loose.
Recently, the residents of the Pleasant Grove Neighborhood in Westtown Township learned that the department did not have access to pet microchip readers.
The residents of Pleasant Grove teamed up with the non-profit All 4 Paws Rescue to supply the department with the tools to successfully retrieve and return lost pets.
Thanks to the residents and the rescue, WEGO now has five bags, which include pet microchip readers, dog water bowls, collars, treats, and leads.
Interim Chief Leahy, who is the owner of four dogs himself, said, “This extremely gracious donation by the residents of Pleasant Grove, through the All 4 Paws Rescue organization, will be a huge assistance for our officers in identifying the owners of lost pets. We would much rather reunite a lost dog with its owner than take the dogs to the caring hands of members of the SPCA.”
Inside the bags are helpful tips on how to recover lost dogs and how to properly scan for a microchip. The bags will be placed in the department's front-line vehicles.
